VEGETABLE AND FRUIT GARDENING TIPS
1. Have Rich Soil for your plants to grow abundantly.
In Texas for example they are compost centers that offer mixed dirt at a fair price. For the garden in the video below we raised it up with wood and use newspaper at the bottom and then added soil on top in order to make the soil rich for the worms
2. Buy Organic Non- GMO Seeds.
Germinate the seeds the amount of days it takes to germinate depends on each type of seed. Note it’s important to keep these inside near a sunny window if the temperature is still not ideal for planting them in the outdoors. Don’t leave them in the sun for too long when they are germinating it can kill them.
3. Make sure that you check how many hours of sunlight each plant needs.
Corn for example needs 6 hours of direct sunlight. This will determine the location in which you should plant. Some plants like spinach handle semi shade well.
4. Have a good irrigation system in place in order to water the plants.
A good test would be the finger test. Just stick your finger deep into the dirt and check if there is any dirt sticking to your finger/knuckle. If there is dirt sticking to your finger that means the soil is moist enough.
5. Use Worm Castings as a Natural Fertilizer
A good brand that we used for our garden has been Earthworm castings Plant Food sold at Home Depot. We also now make worm castings at home using a paint bin to keep the compost and worms working.
6. Get Rid of Slugs and any critters that will damage your harvest.
You can use pencil sharpening’s around the base of the plants to prevent slugs from climbing up your plants. Slugs usually show up at night. This is why it’s not bad to have a frog around that eats those.
7. Scare off the Birds with Fake Owls
This is effective when placed near fruit trees or crops. They sell a variety of fake owls in stores even ones that their eyes light up with motion detectors.
8. Use a thin Net and PVC pipes to cover and protect your plants from all animals including bunnies.
This is effective in keeping pets away from the plants as well as the birds.
9. Use natural alternatives to treat fungus or any plague secret formula below:
For one spray bottle:
5ml Neem Oil
2ml Liquid Soap (you can Dawn Soap or any other dish soap)
1L of water
10. Save some seeds from the harvest in order to plant more.
Spinach for example has a dark seed that appears near the leaves and should be removed and planted. These seeds are strong.
